Position description:

*This is an in-office position based out of our location in Warrenville, IL*

American Guardian Warranty Services, Inc. (AGWS), an affiliate of Reynolds and Reynolds, is seeking a Staff Attorney to join our growing team. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an entry-level attorney to gain hands on experience in the compliance and regulatory arena. This position will involve responsibilities for insurance company research, filings, and compliance. Responsibilities include supporting the legal team with review, research, drafting and monitoring of legal and regulatory requirements concerning the products, services, and business of the AGWS. Duties also involve supporting the licensing and registrations processes, responding to escalated customer complaints, and managing outside counsel.

Essential Functions:
-Manage insurance company filings, licensing matters, and industry requirements
-Participate in the licensing and registration processes for all products, including ensuring timely and accurate submission of forms, reports, and license filings
-Assist with form creation and tools
-Conduct legal research, draft research memorandums, correspondence, and other documents
-Support customer complaint response process and assist with negotiated settlement agreements, complaint resolution, and litigation management
-Monitor changes in legislation and rulemaking
-Navigate compliance issues and implement innovative strategies to mitigate exposure and ensure the company's compliance solutions are updated accordingly
-Identify opportunities for process enhancement, automation, and efficiency in the regulatory reporting workflow
-Assist with evaluation, development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy
-Assist internal and external stakeholders with information inquiries
-Develop and maintain working relationships with key regulators
-Resourcefulness and creativity, with a strong network and ability to quickly research an issue that falls outside of immediate knowledge base
-Ability to work collaboratively, problem solve, make recommendations and implement process improvements
-Communicate and resolve issues in a professional, timely and tactful manner
-Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Current license to practice law in at least one state
  • Interest in insurance law, and regulatory and compliance matters
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn and grow knowledge of industry products, processes and regulations
  • Motivated self-starter who can consistently complete projects and assigned tasks on or ahead of schedule
  • Ability to skillfully articulate legal positions and strategies concisely and quickly
  • Excellent analytical and written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility, self-starting attitude, and a strong work ethic
  • Multitasking skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
